Hosting social projects and initiatives
With a co-ordinated strategy and access to infrastructure delivered from data centres, many other projects and initiatives are possible.
Here are a few examples.
Women in IT
The percentage of computing jobs held by women is below 25% and actually seems to be falling. IT offers excellent, rewarding and well paid careers, and yet young women are less inclined than young men to pursue these opportunities
A program to encourage women to investigate disciplines like computer programming would produce good results.

IT and Older People
Although not naturally comfortable with information technology, the ubiquity of social media allows different generations of a family to maintain some level of contact.
Digital exclusion is a significant problem, and one that is not easy to address, but a coherent IT strategy and platform are a good start.
Social Projects
Data centres and cloud services are a platform on which so many IT services are built. Social media, Google, Video on demand are all delivered to the consumer by the internet with broadband for the last mile, but the service starts in the data centres.
Google started out as a search engine company, and now has a market capitalisation approaching 1 trillion USD. Google offers many services (Google maps, Google own YouTube…) , all built and served from data centres.
Once a solid platform for developing IT services in Wales is established, many other projects can be build on this firm foundation.
Broadcasting
With a solid IT infrastructure Wales could consider a new approach to broadcasting whereby there would be no need for expensive transmitters, and 100% coverage of broadband could also revolutionise the communication industry. Many people in urban areas already have discarded “landlines” – the whole country could do so once the full outreach is achieved.
